Single Life of Kung Fu Star Cynthia Khan at Nearly 60

After experiencing three painful romantic breakups, Taiwanese action star Cynthia Khan known to Chinese audiences as Yang Liqing gradually lost faith in love and chose to live a peaceful single life. Today, at the age of 57, the former martial-arts icon of Asian cinema leads a quiet yet fulfilling life focused on health, personal growth, and charitable work.

Once a familiar face in action films across Taiwan and Hong Kong, Khan has largely stepped away from the film industry in recent years. Although she rarely appears on screen now, fans continue to follow her life closely, remembering her as one of the most prominent female action stars of the late 1980s and 1990s.

A Life Focused on Health and Inner Balance

In recent years, Cynthia Khan has devoted much of her time to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She practices yoga regularly, emphasizing physical fitness and mental well-being. On her social media accounts, she occasionally shares videos of her workout routines, inspiring fans with her discipline and energy even in her late fifties.

Her health journey has not always been smooth. Some time ago, the actress underwent surgery to remove a tumor. Fortunately, the operation was successful, and she has been recovering steadily since then. Since the surgery, Khan has been particularly attentive to her health, focusing on balanced living and mindfulness.

In addition to exercise, she spends part of her free time participating in charity activities, supporting various social causes and community projects.

Despite her low profile, she is still connected to the entertainment world. In April this year, she is expected to reunite with actor Adam Cheng, her co-star from the classic television series The Legend of Chu Liuxiang (often known in Vietnam as Hương Soái Truyền Kỳ). The two will perform together in a stage production in Chengdu, bringing nostalgia to longtime fans who remember their earlier collaboration.

The “Kung Fu Goddess” of Taiwanese Cinema

During the height of her career, Cynthia Khan was widely regarded as one of the most impressive female action stars in Asian cinema. Her martial arts skills and athleticism earned her the nickname “Kung Fu Goddess.”

Many fans and critics often compared her with international martial-arts star Michelle Yeoh, as both actresses helped redefine the image of women in action films. Instead of being limited to supporting roles, they portrayed strong, capable female fighters who could perform demanding stunt scenes.

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Khan starred in numerous action films and television dramas. Her dynamic fighting style, agility, and screen charisma made her a favorite among audiences across Asia.

Despite the success of her acting career, her personal life, especially her romantic relationships, was far from smooth.

A First Love That Ended in Misunderstanding

Cynthia Khan’s first serious relationship began when she was still a student at the National Kuang-Fu Arts School in Taiwan. At the time, she fell in love with senior student Lee Chih‑Chi.

The pair were once considered a promising couple. However, their relationship eventually collapsed due to misunderstandings and personality differences.

According to Lee, the breakup began after Khan failed to keep a promise about an important meeting, which left him deeply disappointed. From Khan’s perspective, however, the situation was more complicated. She later revealed that some of Lee’s extreme reactions at the time frightened her, making it difficult for her to continue the relationship.

The breakup marked the first emotional setback in her life.

A Turbulent Relationship in Hong Kong

When Cynthia Khan later moved to Hong Kong to expand her career, she entered another relationship—this time with a musician from the underground entertainment scene.

At first, the relationship appeared passionate and exciting. However, problems soon surfaced. Her partner reportedly struggled with alcohol addiction and had a volatile personality.

According to reports, he often became verbally abusive when drunk. He also exhibited controlling behavior, calling the actress more than twenty times a day to monitor her whereabouts.

The situation worsened over time. On one occasion, he allegedly rushed onto a film set and grabbed her by the hair in front of the crew, accusing her of being unfaithful.

The relationship finally ended when Khan discovered that the man had been having an affair with one of her close friends. To make matters worse, when they separated, he reportedly stole an expensive watch belonging to the actress.

The traumatic experience had a severe emotional impact on her. After the breakup, Cynthia Khan suffered from depression and chronic insomnia for a long period.

A Third Relationship That Ended in Blackmail

Her third and perhaps most shocking relationship was with Gong Weilu, a man who was 13 years younger than her.

Their relationship moved quickly, but only three months after they began dating, Gong reportedly demanded that Khan give him three million New Taiwan dollars.

When she refused, the situation escalated dramatically. He allegedly began threatening and blackmailing her, claiming he would leak private photos and even threatening to attack her with acid.

Facing immense psychological pressure, Cynthia Khan eventually held a tearful press conference, publicly pleading with him to leave her alone.

The case was later taken to court, but it ended quickly due to insufficient evidence.

Choosing Independence Over Romance

After these painful experiences, Cynthia Khan gradually lost faith in romantic relationships. Instead of pursuing another relationship, she chose to focus on personal happiness, health, and inner peace.

Today, although she lives without a partner, many fans admire her resilience and independence. In the photos and videos she shares online, the actress still looks remarkably youthful for her age, maintaining a graceful appearance and calm demeanor.

For many admirers, Cynthia Khan represents not only a legendary action star but also a woman who has endured emotional hardships and emerged
